2015 - 2016
This week we have planted our seeds in to pots. We put the soil in the containers, then we laid the seeds on top. We covered the seeds with some more compost and watered them. Mrs Gillin said we could put our pots in the poly tunnel. Now there is a growing race between our poly tunnel seeds and the ones left on the playground in pots by 1LG.
Look at the fun we have had this week!
We have been searching for 2D shapes, making them and describing their features.
What shapes can you see?
A circle? A triangle? A square? a rectangle? A pentagon or a hexagon?
1W have been busy sequencing and writing recounts this week in English. We used time connectives to help organise our sentences and worked as a team to share our good ideas.
1W have read 'Where the wild things are' by Maurice Sendak and have been imagining being whisked off to an imaginary world.
Our working wall is full of fabulous writing inspired by our talking and reading work. We have used adjectives to describe. Here are some examples of our writing about our own wild things.
Sharp teeth, a mermaid tail. Long tentacles. Creepy tongue and spooky mouth. Weird horns.
By Izzy McGee.
He looks freaky and scary. He ooks ugly. He has shaarp pointy teeth. He has long massive ears.
By Kieran Hunter.
He is creepy, ugly, horribly odd. My wild thing is nasty with weird, big, sharp horns. His face is sloppy His Skin is like sickly slime.
By Lilly Rees.

That very night in Grace's room a dessert grew... and grew and grew. Her ceiling became the hot sun and blue sky all around.
Great work everyone.
Year 1 had a brilliant time in Hale village looking for signs of village life.
Can you find the statue of the 'Childe of Hale'?
Did you get to see the farm? Or the lighthouse?
We enjoyed our investigation and now we know...
Which animals can be heard or seen in a village?
How was life different to life in Norris Green?
1W enjoyed their Maths workshops this week. Parents and Year 6 helpers made the event even more exciting. We used our shape, space and measures knowledge and our number and place value skills to solve a range of tricky problem solving challenges. It was great fun!
We have been following and writing instructions for the last two weeks in class. First we made squishy jam sandwiches, Sebastian spread the jam in so well that the butter and jam mixed together to make a pink creamy filling! Thomas was an expert slicer and Shea made a huge effort to give a helping hand whenever needed, especially the tasting part! The whole class gave clear instructions and worked as a team.
Mrs May heard about our sandwiches and decided she would like to see if we could use our skills to make healthy sandwiches. The first 2 groups have had great fun. Have a look out for the rest of the class making sandwiches next week.
Year 1 visited church to celebrate the Baptism of our baby doll. We used the Holy Water and looked at the oils which are used in the service. When we got back to class we re-enacted the role of the Priest, Parents and Godparents.
Year 1 2014 - 2015
Year 1 have been busy in the wow room lately. Our learning challenge
is 'Space - What's out there?' We witnessed take off and floated
through space before landing on the moon. We learned about the first
man on the moon, Neil Armstrong and made our own images of what we
would find in space on the walls.
Well done to all of the children and their families who completed the homework challenge over the Easter holiday. The children who returned their book making task were able to take their work and show it to the year 6 classes. It's obvious that working together as a family made the whole project more enjoyable for the children. Look out for the next holiday homework challenge...
Our Learning challenge is;
What would Aliens think of life on Earth?
We launched the topic with the book 'Aliens love underpants' and had an out of this world afternoon in class.
Next we will be finding the right materials to make underwear and space craft; be finding out about transparent materials and will work as scientists to design a fair test.
