Aspiration Week - Time to go and seek our dreams…

In our school, we had a special week called ‘Aspiration Week’ where we invited visitors in, with different careers, to inspire us! They shared their life experiences and their career path with us so that when we grow up we know the options that are available to us in our careers.

Lots of people gave their time to come in and talk to us. In Year 6, we were lucky enough to listen to many visitors: a mechanical engineer, John Torley and an apprentice engineer, Robert; a lady from the CID, Rona Roberts; a sports journalist from Talk Sport, Dom McGuiness; a BBC Operations Manager, Helen; an expert in Coding, Kevin Howson; Everton in the Community coaches. They all shared what they had to do as part of their job and gave us some advice.

We learned that we should try our best to follow our dreams and try to choose a career that we love (as it won’t seem like work then!). All of our visitors said that all our lessons in school are important and we should work as hard as we can.

At the end of the week, we (the whole school) all dressed up as the career we hope to have. In our year, Year 6, we had a range of different jobs: scientists, dance teachers, police, footballers, a make-up artist and many more. We celebrated all that we had learned during the week and it really has helped as we think about our future and how we can achieve our aspirations.

Edible Garden

Our Edible Garden is looking fantastic. We spent some time in there this week and we were so happy with all that has grown over the summer.

Our school and parish community helped to water and look after our garden while we were on our summer holidays. We are really grateful for the great work they did for us.

Thank you all.

Here is what we worked on this week:

Annmaria and Jamie

We planted green beans and peas; we managed to get ourselves all muddy but as the soil was soft, it wasn’t too bad. We also watered the plants when we were outside and we need to remember to keep water them every single day to keep them healthy.

Ellie Rhodes

WE all take turns to take care of all the plants and  we are looking forward to eating the ones that we can.

Celebration at St. John Bosco

All Year 6 were invited to St. John Bosco to celebrate being part of Liverpool Archdiocese along with other Year 6 pupils from the local pastoral area.

They took part in a variety of activities: art, music, prayer and they even created an altar cloth which will be used throughout the year.

Joshua:

I loved all the prayers and educational work there at St. John Bosco. I was I had lots of fun and I was curious to find out more. The staff put so much work in for each of us, especially Ann Quirk, their Chaplain.

Jolie:

We did lots of activities such as music with Mrs Jenkins and we spent time in the prayer room with Ann Quirk. In the prayer room we drew an earth onto blotting paper and then sprayed it with water to give it a lovely effect. We then drew around our hands and placed our hands underneath the earth, to show that we are caring for God’s marvellous creation.

Stephen:

It was a privilege to visit St. John Bosco as we learned a new song: ‘If I were a Butterfly’ and I was happy that I was chosen to sing in front of all those people. We loved the Liturgy that we all took part in at the end.

Spelling

In Year 6 we are working hard to improve our spelling. This is our class playing a game called ‘Disappearing Man’ and we also play a game called ‘Sparkle’. Both games help us to improve our spelling but in a fun way.

Here is what some of the children say about our Spelling lessons:

Kaitlyn and Rianna

Disappearing Man is fun to play as we learn new words as we go along. It encourages you to get the words right as that’s when you get to rub out the other person’s man.

Bradley, Rianna and Annmaria

Sparkle helps you to memorise and learn each part of the word as we stand in a circle and spell the word. If you get out in Sparkle, you have to crouch down and the rest of the class ‘Sparkle’ you, but you can still learn from your peers as they still play along. Both games encourage us to use the words confidently in all our writing.

Spanish Lessons

All Year 6 have great fun each week learning all the numbers up to 1000 in Spanish and counting in 100s. They will also be learning the names of countries and different nationalities too. They used Venn diagrams too during one Spanish phonics lesson.

They sing songs, play games and really improve their pronunciation every lesson.

Here is what some of the children say about learning Spanish:

Scarlett and Mollie:

Every week, in school, all of the year groups have Spanish. We play fun games and have brilliant experiences moreover we learn a second language!

Kacey and Ellie:

I have loved learning new words in Spanish so far in Year 6. We also sing loads of songs in Spanish and have great fun too.
