EYFS News

2015 - 2016

Exciting news the eggs have hatched in Reception. When the children came into school on Monday they were excited to meet the new addition to class. By lunch time a few more eggs had hatched. The children have enjoyed watching them grow and change over the past few days . The chicks will be returned to Acorn farm in Kirkby. The children want to plan a visit to the farm to see the chicks in their new environment.
On Monday the parents and children visited the phonics workshop. The parents had the opportunity to talk to Mrs Cowpland about reading in school. The Parents had lots of fun playing phonic games and reading stories .  A big thank you to all our parents who attended the workshop.

On Wednesday the children in Reception went to church. We went to look at all the special statues.  The children were fascinated by the beautiful colours in the stain glass windows. The children said a special prayer for their families.

Aspirations Week

This week in nursery for Aspirations week, we have been talking about working hard in school so we can have an exciting job.
We have been Artists, Bankers, Storytellers, Doctors, Police Officers, Vets, Firefighters and Designers and Engineers. We enjoyed the visit from Charlie the Vet and she dressed us up and we listened to our heartbeats with the stethoscope. We asked her lots of questions about her job. We had an exciting visit from the Firefighters. We sat in their engine and squirted water.
RM and RG have had lots of fun this week. We have learnt about all different kinds of professions and we even had a visit from a Vet and a Policewoman.

Our Nursery and Reception children have all settled well. It was lovely to have the opportunity to meet all of our Parents and Carers before our children arrived. This really helped us to get to know you and share information about your child.

You are always welcome to ask us anything at all. We are always happy to talk to you. Please come along to our Stay and Play sessions. We will regularly share how well your child is doing and what the next steps for their learning are.

On our website you will find lots of information about the Early Years Foundation Stage ( EYFS )

Please have a look at the Parents Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage. This explains what the EYFS entails.

Also for more information please see the Early Years Outcomes document. This will inform you of the age related expectations. It will enable you to know if your child is developing at the expected rate for his/her age. If you have any concerns or questions however big or small please do ask. We want you to feel very comfortable to ask us anything at all.

The 17 Early Learning Goals that you see highlighted in blue after the 40-60 age band are the expected level for children at the end of the Reception year.

You will see what is expected for each Early Learning goal on this website too.

During the year we will be holding workshops and meetings for Parents and Carers. Nursery will be having a `Chatter` day to emphasise the importance of communication and language. There will be others for Reception too on phonics, reading, writing and mathematics. You will receive an invitation via a letter home as the workshops draw closer.

We really do look forward to a fabulous working partnership with you throughout your childs time with us in our Nursery and Reception.( EYFS )

Our policies and procedures for EYFS are in the policies section but are also included below.

Thank you for choosing our Early Years Foundation Stage.

 EYFS 2014 - 2015

In nursery and reception this week, we have enjoyed story workshops.
Parents came along to share hot tips for reading and worked with the
children in lots of story book themed activities.
We had such a wonderful day with lots of fabulous storytellers!
Our challenge is to read a story every night!
This week (23rd-27th February), Reception have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We have had lots of fun with activities; making Chinese dragons and lanterns, doing Chinese writing, making colourful fireworks with powder paints, celebrating with Chinese foods such as special cookies called "Fortune cookies" which help us to tell our fortune, building a large dragon and even having a Chinese Restaurant in our very own classroom!
Our topic in RE has been Celebrations. On the 23rd January it was Miss. Taylor's birthday and we wanted to celebrate it with her. We had lots of fun having cake, party food and party games. RT even surprised Miss. Taylor with a beautiful selection of home-made cards. Thank you everyone for such a lovely day!

RG and RT have been learning all about Celebrations and Weddings in RE. We had a wonderful preparing for it and we decided that we wanted to get married on the 12th February. We had lots of fun having a big party afterwards and getting dressed in our posh outfits. Well done everyone for making our wedding day a success!
