Kingswood Information

Thursday in Kingswood, Colomendy

Today is our last full day in Colomendy and even though we are a long way from home we have had fun being out and about, learning outside of the classroom.

In Team Tech today, one of our challenges was to build a ladder, then explain why we thought our ladder was the best. We were like engineers having to solve problems and the most important part of the activity was working as a team.

Have you heard of the 3-G Swing? You get pulled up in the air by a rope, and then you have to pull a rope yourself and fly into the air. It was my most challenging activity of the week as I had said I wasn’t going to do it but I did! I was so happy! It is the most awesome thing I have ever done!

One person (mentioning no names) in our group today kept photo bombing our         photos – even the Kingswood staff joined in with the fun. See if you can spot our photo bombers…

It’s our third day at Kingswood and I feel that all of Year 6 have overcome some of their fears such as heights, small spaces and climbing. All of the activities have been amazing, the weather has been fine too and finally, the food has been delicious.

The Aerial Walkway was probably the most challenging regarding all our fears of heights. This is because you had to try and complete an obstacle course in the air! When we saw the walkway lots of us were terrified and began to get really nervous however with the help of the Kingswood staff (Ellie and Brogan) lots of children managed to overcome their phobia of high places and enjoyed the challenge.

As the day flew by, we found ourselves at the Caving activity. Caving was tough for some of us who are small because you had to lift yourself up and climb into the next chamber. Meg and James - the staff - talked to us about three zones when you are facing new activities (comfort zone, stretch zone and panic zone). So, at the beginning of the session I was in the comfort zone as I thought I would be fine, but as we went further into the cave, I began to move into the stretch zone as there were some really tiny spaces… Our challenge was complete – we made it out of the cave and we left the spiders inside!

I loved the Leap of Faith! I am so proud! For this activity, we had to climb up a wobbly, wooden beam and as we got to the top we had to hoist ourselves up onto the platform. Then we had to ‘leap’ off the Leap of Faith and clasp the trapeze.

We have had another great day in North Wales in Kingswood. We have taken part in lots of new activities: caving, archery, eco trail, bouldering, the Leap of Faith and Frisbee golf.

During caving, some of us felt really scared at first because we had to climb through really tight, small spaces but with all our friends and peers encouraging us, we managed to get through the whole cave.

In the Leap of Faith, we were challenged to climb up a huge pole (our harnesses kept us safe of course), climb onto the top of the pole and then LEAP off the top and try to grab hold of the trapeze bar. We were so nervous but with the cheers from the rest of year 6, we managed to face our fears – some even managed to climb to the very top of the platform when they thought they couldn’t do it. It was a proud moment for some!

The eco trail was great fun, as we learned so much about the geography and the environment here in Colomendy. We studied the area and identified lots of mini-beasts using scientific equipment and information cards.  We loved being outdoors and finding out as much as we could.

We have all arrived safely at colomendy and we've had a tremendous time so far. Already we have taken part in a couple of activities (which were both wonderful).

At the campfire tonight the staff asked us to name the fire, we decided on the name Camp Teresa in honour of our school's patron saint.

The weather has been incredible,it was lovely and sunny when we arrived and although it gradually became a little colder, we still had a great time. A magical rainbow even appeared across the whole camp.

What a day we have had - we are now getting ready for bed and looking forward to more adventures tomorrow.
